Why Mold Hardness Testing

Jan 20, 2017

Mold heat treatment quality and performance are usually the hardness as a basis for judgment. Hardness is an important performance indicator mold materials and products die. Die stress at work is complex, such as hot work die is usually under alternating temperature field under alternating stresses, so it should have a good block mold into a soft state or ability and working environment in the long term remain mold shape and dimensional accuracy remains unchanged. General hardness of the finished mold, cold work die often choose to 59-60HRC, hot die often choose 48HRC.
Wear resistance is important performance indicators of the finished mold. When forming metal and mold cavity surface of relative motion, wear surface of the cavity, to make mold shape, accuracy and surface roughness changes and failures. Die wear resistance is due to mold heat treatment and surface heat treatment decisions in particular, assessment based primarily on the hardness of the abrasion resistance of mold.
Mould steel with hardness testing focuses on three cases, namely mould steel material hardness testing, hardness testing of semi-finished products of the heat treated die, requiring high wear resistance of the surface heat treatment surface hardness testing. After forging mould steel material is steel, steel or steel rod, generally in the annealed condition of supply. Some pre-hard plastic mold steel also state (tempering) delivery, the user can directly into the mold without subsequent heat treatment. Die steel classified according to the classification of steel carbon tool steel, alloy tool steel, high-speed tool steel, standard provisions for all kinds of mould steel factory in China hardness requirements, requirements for steel hardness and annealing of quenched hardness of the sample for testing.
