With a certain diameter steel balls or carbide ball, in the prescribed test pressure into a style surface, after a provision removed after testing, measuring surface indentation diameter. Brinell hardness value is force divided by the quotient of the sphere surface area of the indentation. HBS (ball), the unit is N/mm2 (MPa).
Determination of Brinell hardness is accurate and reliable, but HBS applies only to 450N/mm2 (MPa) of metal materials, harder or thinner steel plate does not apply. In the standards of steel pipe, Brinell hardness is most widely used, often to the indentation diameter d to indicate the hardness of the material, is intuitive, and easy.
